This story begins more than 100 years ago, back in the frozen spring of 1992.

A remote family farm sat quietly on a cold, fog-laden slope deep within the Bavarian countryside,

where open fields gradually faded into the edge of a dense dark forest.

The fields were empty, visibility

was limited, and the wind whispered through the bare trees, as life carried on as normal with the

steady rhythm of isolation. For those who lived and worked at Hintechifek, it was simply another

ordinary day, marked by routine,

labour and the home comforts of familiarity. They were all totally unaware that a lurking

darkness was slowly closing in. It began with small, strange signs, unaccounted footprints in the snow, leading from the forest

to the farmhouse, but none ever leading away. A faint, unplaceable sound echoing from the attic

in the dead of night, as if someone was up there. Keys that suddenly vanished, a door lock found broken,

newspapers appearing without explanation,

tools that went missing from the shed, farm animals left distressed,

and the growing, overwhelming feeling that someone or something was regularly watching and waiting.

The neighbours simply dismissed it as the wind or a wandering animal.

But the Gruber family and their living maid, a small six-person household, truly felt it.
