The history of mass killings or mass murders in America go way back.

Documented cases go as far back as February of 1780, just over three years after our country was founded,

when 19-year-old Barnett Davenport, a revolutionary war deserter, robber, and horse thief,

showed up completely broke to a town in western Connecticut looking for work.

Using his brother's name, Nicholas, as an alias,

he found a man named Caleb Mallory,

who was willing to hire him as a farmhand.

He gave Davenport clothes, a job, and a place to live.

On February 3rd of 1780, just after midnight,

Davenport entered the bedroom where Caleb and his wife

Jane slept beside their seven-year-old granddaughter. He had a candle in one hand and a blunt

wooden farm tool known as a swingle and the other. He began hitting the married couple with the

tool, then switched to the butt of a gun he found in the room.

After hearing this and waking, the seven-year-old started crying and saying,

Mr. Nicholas, before he beat her to death too.

After robbing any goods he could from the house, he set it on fire, where two more children were killed by the blaze.

Having been caught later, after being hid by his brother in a nearby cave,

he was arrested and sentenced to a public whipping and hanging.

In the modern era, methods of mass murders have changed quite a bit, but the bloodlust of those committing the murders hasn't.

In this episode, I'll be talking about some mass murders that shook the involved families, communities, and first responders.

It's never something any of us want to deal with, but going on history.

It's something that's been happening for a very long time and probably won't ever stop.
