The history of mass killings or mass murders in America go way back.

Documented cases go as far back as February of 1780, just over three years after our country was founded,

when 19-year-old Barnett Davenport, a revolutionary war deserter, robber, and horse thief,

showed up completely broke to a town in western Connecticut looking for work.

Using his brother's name, Nicholas, as an alias,

he found a man named Caleb Mallory,

who was willing to hire him as a farmhand.

He gave Davenport clothes, a job, and a place to live.

On February 3rd of 1780, just after midnight,

Davenport entered the bedroom where Caleb and his wife
