Hi, welcome to the Personality Hacker Podcast. My name is Joel Mark Witt.

0:06.4

And I'm Antonia Dodge. And this week we want to talk about the importance of

0:12.4

fathers in the family. I think the reason why this dialogue

0:17.1

is sometimes uncomfortable or awkward for some people is there's a lot of charge around the role of the father of whether or not there

0:28.6

is a father needed in the family, exactly what that looks like and how fathers are now seen in culture and society.

0:38.0

There's been a huge sort of pendulum swing from one direction to the other where in say court cases

0:46.7

it's not uncommon for fathers to get you know pretty shafted in family court and there's a feeling that that's deserved.

1:00.6

So we just kind of wanted to not in a super preachy way but just sort of in more of a

1:06.3

explore the topic. Yeah. More look at why you know what is the role of the father imperative is it super important why why would it be

1:18.1

important if it is and maybe some arguments you know going both directions and I also see this kind of

1:26.2

There's like a there's almost like a reclamation of of young fathers right now. They're like, oh, hey, I'm a dad and like, this is interesting and I've got some things I feel about this. Like this is a, this is cool. I like being a dad. I have an identity around this now. And it's like our generation maybe some people a little younger than us

1:45.3

weren't handed this mantle of fatherhood necessarily but then they had a kid and all of a sudden like oh I'm a dad and I got to do something about this and like where does that fit in how do I fit in this because I don't really necessarily have a clear

1:57.0

A clear example of how the modern world has room for a father like myself. Does that make sense?

2:03.0

Like, it's kind of this weird, like,

2:04.9

I don't have a script for this,

2:06.9

but yet I'm a dad and I've got to somehow make my way in the world.

2:09.8

Yeah, well, and I think one of the reasons why there's not as strong a script is, there's a lot of people who grew up without a dad.

2:17.0

So that's number one.

2:19.0

And number two, I think the way fatherhood looks now is different than in the previous generations.

2:26.0

I think fathers take on a very different role than they used to because of how culture has changed.

2:34.8

You know, in a family where both parents are working, that's going to change the dynamic of

2:40.1

the family.
