For reasons we are going to have to grapple with at some point, our society has always allowed

people, men in particular, like Donald and Jeffrey Epstein, to operate with impunity, regardless

of how egregious their behavior is, simply because of their wealth, their power, and their

connections. Donald has spent decades perpetuating a myth about himself

that he is a tycoon, that he is a savant, that he is a successful businessman, even though

none of that is true. Now, of course, that myth was generated by my grandfather and it was successful, not simply because my grandfather spent so much of his wealth, power,

and connections protecting Donald, but because in the 80s in particular, the New York media

and the banks decided to buy into and then perpetuate that myth themselves.

Because Donald, as it turns out, was actually not at all as advertised.

He had to basically threaten people or sue them or fail to pay them in order to make it seem that he was more powerful,

richer, more successful than he really was.

When it comes to Jeffrey Epstein, though, there's a slightly different dynamic at play.

We know that Donald will never take responsibility for anything he's done wrong.

That would be extraordinarily time consuming for him. But in this instance, his refusal to take

responsibility for his relationship with Jeffrey Epstein or the fact that he promised his base

something he has no intention of giving them,

which is to say the truth of what's in the so-called Epstein files.

We can intuit that it's quite obvious.

Donald is hoping, by going back on his word, by refusing to take any responsibility,

he's going to try to get away with it, just as he always has in the past. But what is it? And the difference this time,

it's not getting away with things that his base has no problem with. Like, for example,

assaulting women or committing fraud or lying or pretending to be something he's not. It's failing to give the base what he promised
