On September 18th of this year, Al Jazeera aired an interview I gave back in May, during which we talked about how power works in America, how the Republican Party has shifted, and what really lies ahead for our increasingly fragile democracy.

My uncle Donald is a symbol of much of what is wrong with this country.

He's also an example of what happens when there's no accountability.

And when our system becomes so corrupted that the most violent consciousness actors among us are rewarded while the most vulnerable among us are allowed to suffer. We also discussed what the

2024 elections revealed about America and where we go next. I hope you enjoy it.

You weren't a public figure before this election, but your name became quite well known.

You raised your hand. You said, I'm Mary Trump. I know this man. Here's what we can expect.

And some of the things that you talked about have happened. Has anything happened that you didn't

expect so far?

In terms of things Donald has done or how people have responded to him, no.

The one thing that did surprise me, and this is going back to 2017, was how easily and quickly the Republican Party capitulated to him.

I thought that at least some of them would provide some bulwark against his depredations

because I knew, I didn't know the details, of course, but I knew that he was going to be

absolutely awful and worse than most people allowed themselves to anticipate.

So since then, though, given what's happened in the wake of the 2020 election loss,

especially in the wake of January 6th, 2021, and again, the ways in which the Republican Party wholesale went along with the fact that he

committed an interaction and keeps lying about it, that they, despite the fact that their own

lives were in danger that day, decided that he was their guy and they were going to stick

with him. No, nothing surprises me, including the fact that he continued in every single election

to get more votes. And since the beginning of the second term, we've seen a number of

executive orders and policies, and there's been a lot of movement in one direction, and then it goes in the other direction.

Can you understand why this is happening in light of his character? Is this something related to him?
