Today's meditation focuses on Mary's story. As you listen, consider with fresh insight the courage of Mary,

the fear she must have experienced, the vulnerability, the disbelief, the faith in saying yes.

And consider, where are you being invited to say yes to the divine appointments in your life.

So find a quiet space, take several deep breaths, perhaps light an Advent candle, and let's settle in and begin.

A reading from Luke 1.

But the angel said to her,

Do not be afraid, Mary.

You have found favor with God.

You will conceive and give birth to a son,

and you are to call him Jesus.

How will this be, Mary asked the angel,

since I am a virgin?

The angel answered, the Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High

will overshadow you. So the Holy One to be born will be called the Son of God.

For no word from God will ever fail.

Mary answered,

I am the Lord's servant.

May it be to me as you have said.

Then the angel left her.
