Mary Denise Lands was a 39 year old from Marshall, Michigan.

She was in the medical field and had two children.

On the evening of March 12, 2004, Mary came home from work.

Her boyfriend, Chris, and his cousin were there.

For example, every test I've ever taken says I'm an introvert.

But I go to the gym, I go to Starbucks, I'm on a trivia team, and I'm calling new people every week and I love interacting with you the

listeners. Yet there's a reason scientists study not only the physical issues of

humans being alone in space for long periods of time, but also the mental challenges.

Our brains need interaction, they need communication,

to thrive they must have the sharing of ideas, feelings, and experiences.

Without these aspects in our lives, our minds will degenerate.

I mean there's a reason the biggest penalty a prisoner can get, outside of execution,

is to be thrown into solitary confinement.

In fact, civil rights lawyers have argued against this form of punishment for the exact reason of what it does to a person's mind.

In the case of Mary Lands, she had been in a relationship for three years,

one that, at least from the outside seemed to be a good one.

But then her boyfriend insisted she move with him to another part of town, where Mary

didn't know anyone. She then started to tell coworkers that Chris was becoming controlling.
