0:22.0 | But I guess before we get started in the case, just tell us a little bit about yourself. I know you're doing this podcast. |
0:27.0 | What are there types of reporting? Do you do or cases? Have you have you chased down like this one? |
0:34.0 | Well, Jamie, I'll tell you this is my first true crime podcast. I am a fan of true crime in the genre, but this is my first time doing a true crime series. |
0:46.0 | Regular job is that I work for Idea Stream public media, which is the NPR station and also the PBS station in Northeast Ohio, so the Cleveland area. |
0:58.0 | And generally what I cover is community stories. I work with different communities and people to tell their own stories. |
1:07.0 | And I really try to collaborate closely with people to tell the stories they want to tell with the idea of find it connects people more. |
1:13.0 | And I will say when I first started working on Marion bill, I was like, wow, this is a total outlier. |
1:20.0 | This is way different from what I ordinarily do, but as it turned out, it really wasn't there were some similarities with my regular work and that I collaborated really closely with the two sisters of the victims and ended up becoming a very collaborative process. |
1:36.0 | Right. And I love all the people that you're bringing into this story, but how did you go from community stories around Cleveland to diving into true crime? |
1:45.0 | Was it your personal connection to this case? Or was there something else you just wanted to try podcasting what led you here? |
1:51.0 | Yeah, well, it's a couple of things. Like I said, I am a fan of the true crime genre, especially when it's done well. |
1:58.0 | And I especially love investigative podcasts, a few that I've loved over the years up. |
2:03.0 | Bearbrook really comes to mind from New Hampshire public radio. Good one. |
2:07.0 | And so yeah, and then in this case, this was a case that my parents were connected to. |
2:13.0 | So when I was growing up, my parents would mention from time to time, this case, because they, my mom was a student at Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio, when this happened in February 1970. |
2:27.0 | And she was friends with Bill, the male victim. Bill was a graduate student in French. |
2:35.0 | And his roommate, a guy named Tom, was dating my mom's roommate. So, you know, my mom kind of knew Bill and Tom that way. |
2:45.0 | And on the night the murders happened, Tom, the roommate was staying at my mom's apartment with his girlfriend. |
2:52.0 | And my dad was also there visiting when Tom went back the next morning, which was a Saturday morning, where it really was right after noon and discovered the crime scene. |
