Maintaining his innocence till the end,

Larry Swarangin was executed last week by the state of Texas.

Swarengine was convicted of the rape and murder of 19-year-old Melissa Trotter,

a college student who went missing in December of 1998.

Her body was found nearly a month later in a wooded area about 30 miles north of where she was

last seen. Swarengine has proclaimed his innocence for two decades

and his execution had been stayed on five previous occasions.

In a final statement released before his execution, he referred to himself as a

sacrificial lamb, and his last words were, Lord forgive him, they don't know what they're doing.

Kelly Blackburn, who prosecuted the case, said that he had absolutely zero doubt that anyone other than Larry Swarangen committed the crime.
