Scott Derrickson will no longer be directing Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

It was just announced by both Marvel Studios and Scott Derrickson that he will be stepping down as the director of the second Doctor Strange movie,

which is set to start production in May of this year.

According to both parties, the split was mutual with Marvel Studios saying in a

statement to variety, quote, Marvel Studios and Scott Derrickson have amicably parted

ways on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness due to creative differences.

We remain grateful to Scott for his contributions to the MCU.

Scott Derrickson also tweeted,

Marvel and I have mutually agreed to part ways on Doctor Strange

in the Multiverse of Madness due to creative differences.

I am thankful for our collaboration and will remain on as EP.

It certainly sounds like a pretty amicable split,

but it does make one wonder what those creative differences might have been.

Creative differences is

really starting to sound like a nice way of saying, I don't like your ideas.

And now the search for a new director begins. The film is set to be released on May 7,

2021, and is not expecting any delays in production. Scott Derrickson has directed many

notable horror movies like Hellraiser, Inferno, Sinister, and The Exorcism

of Emily Rose.

So maybe Doctor Strange was shaping up to be a little too scary.
