Summary

Florida State went through an emotional day in which apologies were issued, feelings were expressed, and -- hopefully -- growth occurred. A Tweet from star defensive tackle Marvin Wilson sparked a national conversation about the words coach Mike Norvell used to describe his program’s response to the social unrest occurring throughout the country. On The Bench recaps the developments that occurred throughout the long day. All right, these are different times. I think for many of us, they're scary on certain times, there's a pandemic, there's economic aggression, civil unrest, and all of this is trickled into the sports world that we hear on on the bench cover daily for you guys and

0:15.4

specifically it's trickled into the Florida State world today. A lot of people

are scared or confused, hurt, not sleeping well. I usually wake up for a few hours in the

today's podcast that I woke up at 1.30 this morning to see a miss call from my co-host Chris Knee and a dozen

0:36.2

text messages from him and Zach Blostin and I slept through some really powerful comments and intense comments from Marvin Wilson,

listening to them as they never really did before. The climate has shifted quickly in the days of a news anchor and sensitively telling an athlete to shut up and dribble or they're not gone, but those comments are going to be met with more resistance and we saw that with the response of Drew Breeze recently in his subsequent

1:45.2

apology and we saw that today with Marvin Wilson in Florida State.

So this is on the bench.

are Chris Knee, Josh Newburgh, and we're going to recap what's been an

incredibly emotional and exhausting 12 hours or so for us for the FSU

fan base and more importantly Florida State players and coaches.
