the world. What will the effect of the quote-unquote big, beautiful bill be on the American economy and the American welfare state.

How should we think about the rapid increase in the U.S. national debt in an era in which

both political parties seem to have decided it is in the political interest to spend money

on their watch and let the other side worry about filling budget deficits.

Can the United States realistically sustain the astonishing dominance over the world's economy?

The United States is about 5% of the world's population and US firms at the moment of about 50% of the world's stock market capitalization.

Could that still be the case?
