The basic message of the Bible is easy to understand.

It's all about Jesus, our Savior.

As St. John wrote,

The blood of Jesus Christ, God's Son, cleanses us from all our sin.

Jesus comes for sinners.

Jesus comes for you.

The order of Luther's catechisms, either the small catechism or the large catechism, is no coincidence.

He was thinking these things through when he took up the task of catechizing both the young and

the old. Where do you begin? Well, you begin with the Ten

Commandments. You begin with what God says about us and what God reveals about himself in those

commandments. And then you go on to answer those commandments with who God is and what He has done

for us. And that is why right after the Ten Commandments comes the Apostles'
