🏔️ The Saints: Adventures of Faith and Courage

🗺️ Martin De Porres - Episode One: A Humble Heart

Lima, Peru. 1579. In the Spanish colony, a society fractures along race and class lines. Natives and African slaves toil while Spanish elites prosper. From these dusty streets, a mixed-race hero emerges - the son of a Spanish nobleman and a freed slave. His hands heal and his faith inspires. But in a land where bloodlines determine destiny, can one dark-skinned friar's compassion overcome the prejudices of two worlds? This is the story of the first black saint of the Americas, Martin de Porres

🚦 Rating: 7+

Martin de Porres’s story teaches lessons of faith, justice, and mercy. Martin’s natural compassion leads him to caring especially for animals, from feeding a stray dog as a child to miraculously convincing an infestation of rats to leave the priory. Martin’s sacrificial spirit makes him willing to sacrifice himself for the sake of his brothers. Martin’s life demonstrates how we are called to exercise true charity in a broken world.
This series contains moments of danger and intensity, including raised voices. It portrays some characters’ racial animus and discrimination on the basis of race. Martin’s father, a prominent diplomat, refuses to acknowledge his mixed-race children or marry their mother. Martin is separated from his mother. Martin is verbally abused because of his heritage. Martin is initially refused entry to the monastery, but he perseveres. Martin offers to sell himself into slavery to pay off the monastery’s debts.
