Hello and welcome to Marshall Matters with me Winston Marshall at The Spectator. On this

podcast I've been exploring freedom of speech and taboo topics in the creative industry.

Well, it seems to me there is no more totemic and taboo a topic than the trans debate.

J.K. Rowling, the world's most famous author, constantly receiving death threats for her

gender critical opinions. Graham Linnehan, creator of the IT crowd and Father Ted,

but a little bit of his work has had his creative career completely unravel.

Even this last month, we had Christian Henson,

was the co-founder of Spitfire Audio, a music studio that creates audio for software,

amongst other things, was suspended for expressing gender-critical opinions on his Twitter,

and even more recently, the keyboard player from Brit Award-winning band Elbow. Craig Potter

vanished from Twitter after expressing concern for what was happening to

children and again expressing gender critical opinions. So to explore the trans issue, I am joined by

Britain editor, The Economist and author of Trans Helen Joyce.

No, of course not.

We all know what woman means.

Woman means that you were conceived, female, you got born, and you grew up.

You didn't die before you grew up.

That's the only criterion for being a one.
