I really believe with all my heart that our status, our marital status, is the gift of God,

and as such ought to be accepted and used as all his other gifts for the sake of other

I will be talking a little bit more about what I see to be the truth about gifts tomorrow

when I speak on the subject of suffering, but I do think that marriage is a gift which

I think most of us would regard as the greatest gift and the one we would choose if we had

I don't know very many single women who would choose to be single.

If all other things were equal, I know some very contended single women who have accepted

this as a gift from God, even though God didn't give them a choice of their gifts.

And the rest of us are the richer because these women have given themselves to God and

laid down their lives for the rest of us in ways which married women simply cannot do.

Paul knew what he was talking about when he said the married woman thinks about how she

can please her husband and the single woman can think about how to please the Lord.

I'm not at all sure that Paul was a single man.

I think it's very clear that he was single when he wrote his epistles, but there's no proof
