This week in part four of our marriage series, Dan and his wife Becky continue talking about the idea of cleaving

by looking at the contempt and bitterness that can take root and create so much division in a relationship.

Well, we're back to think through what's required to grow, to cleave together.

It doesn't come easily for any couple, and if it does, it's not true cleaving.

Cleaving implies a kind of holding on together, and not desperate, but on the other

hand, a element of we are in the midst of a storm, and we're going to have to hold to each other

and to our hearts in order to have a union, because there are too many forces, too many, too many winds blowing, too much

division if we just allow ourselves to sort of function in life and go along with the path

that is before you. So with that, we were actually talking a little bit earlier about the role of kind of the dream boat that I purchased after I wrote the book on Sabbath.

Figured there was nothing better with the proceeds of that book than to buy a boat that we could Sabbath on,

a sailboat that we could use in Puget Sound, not too big, but trailerable,

and actually easier. We got a little slip in our marina. I mean, honestly, you just couldn't have

had more of a sweet dream come true. And it turned out not to be that. Well, I did bless

your buying that boat. We looked at quite a few boats together. And I knew all along that your

lifestyle would not really afford this capacity of time that it takes to take care of a boat,

let alone even to go sailing in a boat.

And to get a trailer a boat was scary too because that means that I had to help you raise the mast

and do all that and pull the trailer away or I would be in the boat

why you pulled the trailer away. All that was really frightening to me.

For my incompetence as a human being, it really was a dream that had sort of the interior

formed of a nightmare.
