But we start off with a sea of green to wrap up a volatile January, the S&P 500 jumping

yearly 2%, the Nasdaq more than three.

Today's rally, though, doesn't erase all of the pain from this month.

All three major indices posting their worst month since the start of the pandemic, the Nasdaq

closing out its second worst January in history just behind the first month of 2008.

10 of 11 S&P sectors down for the month's energy, the only one to see gains.
