Here's your closing bell brief for Monday, July 14th.

I'm Charlotte Gartenberg for the Wall Street Journal.

U.S. markets edged higher today as President Trump turned up the pressure on Russia and two of America's largest trading partners, the EU and Mexico.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 88 points to close at 44,460. The S&P climbed almost nine points and the NASDAQ rose 55 points.

President Trump said today that the U.S. will impose tariffs of up to 100% on Russia

if it doesn't agree to halt hostilities in Ukraine within 50 days.

He also threatened to slap 30% tariffs on EU and Mexican goods. Market reaction

was still subdued. Among individual companies, crypto-sensitive stocks rose as Bitcoin prices

rallied to another high. Coinbase's market cap hit $100 billion for the first time. Circle

Internet Group added 9%. Coinbase and Robin Hood both

closed the day almost 2% higher. Ken View, the maker of Tylenol and Benadry, named Director

Kirk Perry as interim chief executive. Shares were up to and a quarter percent. Swedish automaker

Volvo said it would take a non-cash impairment charge of $1.2 billion related to launch delays in tariffs.

Shares fell almost 4.5%. Chip design software company's synopsis received a conditional approval from China to buy ANSys.

Shares of synopsis fell nearly 2% while Anciss gained 3%. And Warner Brothers Discovery

had a good opening weekend with its new Superman movie, which grossed an estimated $122 million
