So let's start, as we often do, with house prices. and nationwide have published their house price report, as they do each and every month.

And their headline reads, annual house price growth softens in August.

It's an interesting spin because it fell by 0.1%.

So I wouldn't class that as growth, but they see it as a softening of growth.

Now that is off the back of July

up by 0.05, which was a very strong month, a very strong performance, quite surprising, actually.
