Hello from CNN. I'm Joe Beck, with the five things you need to know for Monday, April 7th.

Global markets plunged this morning. Hong Kong's Hangseng Index closed its worst day since 1997,

while European stocks fell in early trading, but are faring better than Asia.

And with fears that a global recession could impact the need for fuel, oil prices have dropped

to their lowest level in four years.

As for the U.S., futures aren't looking good, after the worst two-day stretch for stocks in five

years since the pandemic.

Goldman Sachs has raised its U.S. recession odds to 45 percent,

and is warning that President Donald Trump's trade war could crash the economy.

But Trump is still speaking positively about his tariffs,

while downplaying world volatility and plunging markets.

And his administration has sent mixed signals about whether the tariffs are open for

negotiation.

I do want to solve the deficit problem that we have with China, with the European Union and

other nations. And they're going to have to do that. And if they want to talk about that,

I'm open to talk. But otherwise, why would I want to talk?
