this has been a long hard winter in Scotland we had quite bad snows and winds towards the end of the winter and that's

effectively delayed the spring now that's not pleasant for anybody but it's been

particularly difficult for Scotland's farmers recently I went down to visit Lorraine

Lucia now Lorraine farms in Dumfries in Galloway. And she works a system called hefted flocks.

She's a hill sheep farmer.

And when a flock is hefted, they're not kept behind fences.

They know which part of the hillside is theirs,

and they tend to stick to it, hence the name hefted.

It is a very skilled type of farming, but it's also extremely labour intensive.
