Summary

Mark Sinclair returns to the podcast, live from FALKEN's cockpit in Nuku Hiva! Andy caught up with Mark after FALKEN & COCONUT have been shadowing each other across the Pacific - they even shared a raft-up through the Panama Canal! Mark is midway through his fourth circumnavigation attempt since the first GGR in 2018, this time following the Mini Globe Race fleet. We covered a lot of ground in this one, from Mark's career and philosophy to sailing to GGR founder Don McIntyre and more!

I'm your host, Andy, and I'm here with Mia.

0:18.0

Hey, Mia.

0:18.4

Hey, I'm doing good.

0:20.1

This is the last episode of this 10 episode season. I'm hosting it. It's with Mark Sinclair. I recorded this one in the Marquesas, which was really cool. But we're taking a break for the summer because Mia, you, me, and Axel are going to be out for a while on new Spica, our OE36, sailing in the Stockholm Archipelago.

0:39.2

Excited, nervous, both?

0:41.0

Super excited. It feels pretty far away, even though it's only a few weeks away,

0:44.4

but it's going to be really nice to move on to the boat and just kind of see how it goes,

0:49.0

explore every corner, and go swimming and just chill.

0:52.8

And not really have any plan, right? Like just be able to kind of day sail our way from island to island and be mellow. Yeah. Which is the opposite of how we are on Falcon and East Bjorn, where it's like, we have a mission, we have a deadline, we got to go. Yeah. People often ask me that since you're sailing when you're away, how do you want to go sailing when you get home?

1:11.7

But to me, they're completely different from each other because this is just, we're basically camping on the water and being able to explore the archipelago.

1:20.1

Yeah. A reminder to people, if you like the podcast and you want to help us promote it, just review it on whatever podcast app you're using.

1:27.4

If it's Apple Podcast or Spotify, just leave us a review. It actually helps get the show, get the word out. If you want to support the show, become a member of the quarterdeck. Go to quarterdeck.59-north.com. And that's the best way to actually financially support the show. And I've got a lot of plans for that. I've been away for two months. so I haven't done much in the quarterdeck while I'm away, but we've got stuff coming on there and there's a large

1:46.9

backlog of information and fun stuff on the quarter deck. So a great way to support the show is on the quarter deck. I think we, if you want to come sailing with us, Mia, we have a couple openings this summer you said there's a which trip was it on east pier we have one open on east beyond

2:01.4

one space open in east beyond this summer it You said there's a, which trip was it on East Bjorn? We have one open on

2:00.9

East Bjorn, one space open in Eastbyon this summer. It's a sea trial basically. Okay, yeah. So based, so this is a sea trial for both the boat and the skipper and mate. So Mano, who's from Switzerland, is going to be the skipper. It's the first time for him skippering East Bjorn. And I sailed with him across the Atlantic last year on Falcon. Super nice guy, very good sailor. So he's going to do a little week-long sea trial on the boat, and we've invited crew to come along. It's going to be after a maintenance period, so there'll be a little bit of, it's a little bit of a different trip. It's like a shakedown sale. And there's one spot open on that. And you can go to 59-north.com

2:37.2

slash bunks to see... a different trip. It's like a shakedown sale. And there's one spot open on that. And you can go to

2:36.1

59-north.com slash bunks to see all the availability we have for this year, next year, and we've even

2:41.9

published 2027 already on Falcon. Also, lastly, we've got the racing schedule that's going to come out

2:47.6

this week. So pay attention to 59-north.com slash racing.
