about uh freddie roman the great comedian died and we were both great friends of his but he was kind of

the end of an era like the last of the great Catskill comics and no longer with us.

But didn't you work for him?

Yeah, you know, when I first started out, exactly 50 years ago, Mark, 1972, he was, I think, the second comic that I wrote jokes for. He paid me $7 a joke. That was the

going rate at the time. And then he liked it so much. He bumped it up to 10. But I'll tell

you something. He was the nicest, kindest, most supportive human being on earth. You know, I watched his funeral. It was live streamed. And the eulogies were given by his daughter, two grandchildren, and a son-in-law.

And to hear the family talk about how grandpa was funny, what he meant to them, calling

them every day, a very generous man, Paul Reiser, when he found out that Freddie was sick,

calling every single day. A lot of comedians, younger comedians, that Freddie helped along the way.

What a tribute it was to him. And yes, you're absolutely right. With the exception,

with the exception of another Borschbel comic named Dick Capri.

Yeah, he's still alive.

He's like 91, and he's in Florida.

Freddie is the last of that era.

So, but that whole era, the Borsh Belt, the comedians, everything is going.

The delicatessons are all going one by one because the new generations didn't want any part of that.
