Joe Biden was first well known as a plagiarist, and here he is at Normandy, trying to be Ronald Reagan.

Tell us about it. It was quite a weird weekend.

Well, here we are, Mark, since uh... the great invasion d day

and forty years ago ronald reagan gave really what is still the gold

standard of speeches

at the at the normandy beach uh... it was an extraordinary event and we i

urge people to watch it on youtube i mean it's just, it is Reagan at his absolute best.

Peggy Noonan, who wrote most of the speech.

It was just superb.

Of course, his delivery.

I mean, he was so skilled.

But as Peggy Noonan makes the point in her Wall Street Journal column, there was a speech within

the speech.

Yes, they were celebrating the 40th anniversary.

Many of the Army Rangers were there with them as they talk about scaling the cliffs

on Omaha and Utah beaches.

But as Noonan says, there is this other thing going on, which is the way that the Europe,

in particular, but also in the United States, is turning toward the peacnick revolution

and against all-for-arms arms control eliminating American firepower. All of this, of course, being put on the West, not the Soviet Union. The Soviet Union is sort of, yeah, right, we're going to give up our arms. Sure, no problem. They'll have all kinds of treaties. That's where Reagan came up with the great

line, trust, but verify. You can't trust the Russians. You can't really trust the Russians.
