It was kind of a rough Sunday. I wake up with this no Michael Goodwin column, I guess a vacation, but

Hey, it's August. Well, I shouldn't complain. I take a lot of time off in August, but would it?

Let me just ask you about the summit. I watched the meeting. It went three hours, which is a very

good sign. They came out smiling. Very warm press conference.

Putin even speaking English to Trump, which is a great compliment.

Then I watched the Sunday shows.

Apparently it was a failure.

It was a disaster.

The whole thing was bad.

What do I believe?

I think the vacuum, right?

There's a vacuum about what actually happened and what happens next, starting today in Washington.

So I think that what you're getting is the spin of both sides, right?

Because there's nothing concrete to seize on.

Look, I am not optimistic about this.

If Europe is the answer, then the problem can't be solved.

Because that's apparently what's shaping up,

is a guarantee of European troops to hold the peace if there is a settlement.
