Today, the Bible Study podcast continues the study of the gospel of Mark as we continue

with chapter 14.

I'm your host, Chris Christensen. We left off after two sections of chapter 14. We'll continue on today. Don't know for sure whether we'll finish it. When we left the disciples and Jesus, they were at the last supper or they were at the Passover meal, the Seder, and the specific one that we call

the Last Supper.

And Jesus had changed this meal with some very new words they weren't used to.

And then we get Jesus predicts Peter's denial.

You will all fall away, Jesus told them, for it is written.

I will strike the shepherd and the sheep will be scattered. After I have risen, I will go ahead of you into Galilee. Peter declared, even if all fall away, I will not. Truly, I tell you, Jesus answered, today, yes, tonight. Before the rooster crows twice, you yourself will disown me three times.

But Peter insisted emphatically, even if I have to die with you, I will never disown you,

and all the others said the same.

So Jesus, I think, is telling them this to prepare them, because they're about to go through this very, very difficult time.

They're at the end of Monday, Thursday.

They're about to get into Good Friday.

And he knows that they are weak.

And they think they are stronger than they are.

And I don't know about you, but I sometimes think I am stronger than I am.

And so he tells them, you're going to be afraid, you're going to fall away, you're going to deny me,

and they're sure it's not going to happen.
