Back in 2012, John was going through a divorce.

Things got a little tight financially and he needed some help with the bills, so he got

a roommate, a friend of his, and it was such a good experience.

He decided to run out another room in his house.

So he put an ad on Craigslist and immediately got a response from an elderly widow.

Her name was Marion.

She's an older lady.

You just assume that you can trust her, that she's going to be cooperative and just being,

you know, helping around the home with maybe being clean and cleaning up after herself,

not being a burden.

It felt like the perfect match.

Marion was in her 70s.

She was quiet and reserved.

It seemed like she was looking for a peaceful and comfortable home.

And at first, she got along really well with John and his other roommate.

So in that first month was she relatively peaceful?

Yes, absolutely quiet, cordial.

You know, it wants to sit down and just maybe watch a little bit of television or whatever.

Very cordial, very friendly, just kind of mind her own business, kind of went up to

room and did her thing.

Marion told John that she was a writer and so he assumed that that's what she was doing

up in her room for hours every day.
