When the dive boat came to a stop, Emmy grabbed her gear and started getting ready.

She was a marine biologist off the coast of Australia and was here with her other friends to study

sea life at the Great Barrier Reef, the largest coral reef system in the world.

Someone helped her lift the oxygen tank onto her back.

A belt of weights and a BCD, Bo buoyancy control device, was strapped onto her body.

She was wearing a black wetsuit, which clung tightly to her body and would keep her warm.

Finally, she pulled on her mask and snorkel and climbed the edge of the boat. With a splash

Emmy jumped into the cool water of the ocean. She treaded water for a few seconds

while putting the regulator into her mouth and then released the air from the BCD.

Bubbles rose around her as she descended deeper and deeper into the brilliant blue water.

When Emmy was at a good depth, she started swimming forward toward a gigantic school of glittering fish.

She saw the colorful reef below and descended further down so she could see everything up close.

Blue and yellowfish darted around her, an eel poked its eyes out of a cave.

Crabs danced along the edge of the reef.

Aquatic plants swayed with the currents.

Emmy watched and waited, breathing fresh oxygen into her mask,

observing the reef calmly.

The reef was like an entire city of sea creatures going about their daily lives, hunting for food, avoiding predators, or just

taking in the sunlight shining down through the water from high above.

Suddenly her eyes spotted something new. A patch on the rocks seemed out of place,

a puzzle that didn't quite fit. She swam a little closer and the mystery

revealed itself a small camouflage octopus blending in with its surroundings.
