Summary

After the disappearances of Catherine Davis, Cindy Heller, and Angela Ewert, and the murder of Sarah Kashka, special homicide task force was created to investigate those crimes specifically. However, they were far from the only unsolved cases that had police stumped. Just days before Cindy Heller went missing, Twenty-nine-year-old middle school teacher Marilyn Hartman was brutally murdered in her home in what, on the surface, seemed like a burglary gone wrong. Not six weeks later, thirty-two-year-old middle school teacher Kathryn Jackson was killed in her apartment in what can only be described as a depraved and savage act of violence. In between those two crimes, a Colleyville woman named Judy Herron was also killed in her home. Similarities between these crimes had Fort Worth police detectives scrambling to make sense of them. Are they related?

0:08.6	At about 7 p.m. on Sunday, November 25, 1984,
0:13.7	32-year-old middle school teacher Catherine Jackson returned to her West Fort Worth apartment
0:19.4	after spending the Thanksgiving holiday
0:21.6	with her parents in her hometown of Brady. When she finished unloading her things,
0:26.9	Catherine locked the deadbolt, the door handle, and slid the chain lock into place.
0:32.7	Those three locks and the people always made her feel safe.
0:40.2	Catherine phoned her mother to let her know she'd made it back safe and sound. She was glad to have the car unloaded and ready to relax,
0:46.7	Catherine told her mother just before hanging up. Early the next morning at Irma Marsh Middle School

0:54.8	Catherine's eighth grade students became worried when she didn't show up for class.
0:59.5	A couple of the students walked to principal James Pollard's office to report their teacher's absence.
1:06.4	Pollard was immediately concerned, as being late was highly unusual for Catherine, and being late without
1:13.6	calling was absolutely unheard of. He phoned her apartment, but there was no answer.
1:20.8	Principal Pollard's first thought was that Catherine had gotten into an auto accident on her way back

1:33.6	Quickly, he darted to his vehicle and headed Catherine's way, which was about four miles to the southwest.
1:38.1	When he got there, he saw Catherine's car in the lot.
1:46.5	Pollard visited the complex's leasing office and told an agent what was going on, and she hurriedly grabbed her keys.
1:51.9	They raced to Unit 104, Catherine's apartment, on the second floor.
1:58.3	The deadbolt was locked. The leasing agent put in the key, turned it, and opened the door.
