You know, if you are in Christ and he's in you, you have a sincere desire to live right,

to do right, to become the person Christ intends for you to be, and to live the life that Jesus designed for you

from the beginning of time. But it's just so easy to get striving in our own strength. And how do you

know the difference between when you're abiding in the vine and you're striving in your strength?

Well, the condition of your soul. Are you full of peace and joy and rest and an assurance

that more rests on God's shoulders

and on yours?

Are you in an angsty place, a striving place, where you feel like you're at the mercies of men

instead of in the mercies of God?

Well, you may wonder what we're talking about today, but I think you probably guessed it

about the abiding life.

Jesus says, abide in me, and I and you. As a branch cannot bear fruit

unless it abides in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you abide in me. I did a word study

in that word abide in John's Gospel chapter 15. In the word abide translates this way, to be held,

to be kept continually, to remain as one, and to wait on one. How do we live our

busy lives while we're living in full anticipation of God and his voice and direction in our

lives, that we don't make a move unless he says so? Well, the late great Ender Murray, one of my

favorite dead guys, I'll just tell you, he wrote an incredible book on the abiding life, abiding in Christ.
