I'm recording this on Tuesday. The DC is in a Borneo-like fog of sweat and the

king embers of various cicadas and it's all very bleak and sad for someone like me who does not like this weather.

But a bright spot is that I have Alex Debarak on. I get a lot of grief from my more sort of nationalist favorable conservative friends for having gone in such a classical liberal laissez-faire direction.

And so it's a real joy to have someone on here who makes me look like some sort of blood and soil guy.

Alex is the co-founder of Marjol Revolution. He's a professor at Mercatus and George Mason University. He's written an economics textbook.

He's been sort of like that guy. Do you remember that guy in the incredible Hulk TV show who was the only guy in the world who really believed that the Hulk was real and was determined to report on the danger and reality of him and everyone thought he was sort of a crackpot.

I don't mean this in disparaging way, but that's sort of been Alex on the pandemic for a very long time and on the need to take vaccinations and whatnot seriously.

I first met him like 10 years ago at a Liberty Fund conference. I would tell you more about that, but given the rules of confidentiality, I would have to cut off another finger if I revealed more.

So with that, Alex, thank you so much for coming on the remnant.

So, and I should also say, you know, Canadian libertarian, there's a little bit of an oxymoron thing going on there, but we can talk about that in a little bit as well.

So we didn't talk about talking about this, but the CPI numbers came out this morning and I had, you know, I'm one of these people who's whipsawed between different friends who have different theories about the inflation stuff.

We don't have to do a deep dive, but I was just wondering, where do you come down on the inflation wars? Is it systemic? Is it policy driven? Is it temporary? Where do you come down on all of it?

Right. Interestingly, just last night, my wife castigated me an economist for not calculating the CPI correctly.

So she's very concerned, you know, that housing is not inputted correctly. So, you know, hopefully she won't listen. I'm sorry, John, hopefully she won't listen to my cast, but I don't think she's quite correct.
