This DNA genealogy way of finding suspects is gaining a lot of traction, getting some serious

legs here.

And how does that work?

Well, first of all, there's a DNA match.

That's an easy one.

So whenever there is, let's say there is a rape and a rape kit is involved, that is the lady,

usually the lady that goes to an emergency room and what they'll do is take bodily fluids out of her

or bodily fluids that are on her or let's say scratches under the fingernail in which he

tried to hold off the attacker, all of which provides DNA. Now, if there is a DNA match in the system, then that's an easy match.

But what if the perpetrator is not in the system?

There is no DNA.

I don't have any DNA with the police department.

You probably don't.

So how do they get to me if I'm the perpetrator?

Well, they have the DNA and then they simply go on 23 and me, for example, or any one of the

websites. And chances are there was someone in my family that in fact has connected.

And the police at that point have a match, but maybe to an uncle, an aunt, a cousin,
