Summary

On The Overlap this week, we have an exclusive interview with England and Manchester United star Marcus Rashford, brought to you by Sky Bet.

We caught up with Rashford during a pre-season training camp in Portugal as he gears up for his ninth season as a first-team player and his second under Erik ten Hag.

Following his 30-goal haul last campaign – his most prolific yet – Rashford reveals how much his personal psychologist and strength & conditioning coaches have helped him recover from setbacks and injuries since bursting onto the scene in 2016.

Marcus talks about the importance of having a close family network and overturning government policy, highlighting an all too real issue when he bumped into a childhood friend who had become homeless.

Lastly, he reveals his ambitions for Manchester United, and what it would mean if he could break Wayne Rooney’s goalscoring record and his intention to win the biggest trophies at Old Trafford.

1:16.6

Yeah, like for me it's just about getting back up to speed, you know, before I want to go back into pre-season.

1:22.6

A lot of it is obviously to do with the physical aspects, but also just when I go back into pre-season-season I enjoy everyone like being back together again because we've been away through each other for a while. I don't want to go back into pre-season and be dying every day. Like I used to do. No, it's good to get, I usually do it every year to be fair, just get back into shape. Have you done it every year? Because last year, I remember there being a big thing about you doing this sort of, like, 10-day camp. And you came back last year and you looked unbelievable, you were so strong, you're fit, you looked like you'd sort of gain another yard. What have you done in this last sort of 12 months that sort of made that sort of difference physically? I think last year I had a bit more time off so I could do a double the training camp really

2:04.6

so I've done probably two weeks in total.

2:07.6

Yeah. Ten days of bar work and running and jump up four days before of just getting back up to speed.

2:14.6
