0:22.1	the niche and traveler Marco Polo.
0:25.0	Last time we left the 21-year-old Marco standing before the mighty Kubla Khan.
0:29.0	Marco's father said his son was the Khan's man and the Mongol emperor was pleased. So today we have two major
0:35.8	tasks. The first is that we are going to do a dive into the world of Kublai Khan and the Mongol Empire.
0:41.1	This will take a high-level look at the Mongol world and how it pertained to Marco Polo.
0:46.1	Second, we are going to get Marco Goyne as he starts to Gallivant around Asia as an agent for Kublai Khan.
0:52.2	Now, I do have three notes because we can't have a show without some notes.

1:38.1	but I don't want to venture too far off the path of historical accuracy.
1:41.5	Thus I will not tell you the tale of how Jengas Khan defeated the legendary
1:45.4	Prester John and conquered his kingdom. Seriously, Marco goes on at length about the stories
1:50.7	he was told about the Christian realm led by Prester John.
1:54.0	The story goes that the Khan asked for Prester John's daughter to wed and was refused.
1:58.4	This started a war between the two kingdoms, with Prester John losing and his realm being swallowed by the Mongols.
2:04.5	Good story never happened, but it's one of those things that Marco dwells on quite a bit in
2:08.8	his book and it's all fantasy.
