Hi friends. I'm Annie F. Downs. Let's read the Gospels. The Gospels are the first four books of the New Testament in the Bible, Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. These are the stories of Jesus Christ's life on earth, the friendships, the parables, the sacrifices, the meals, the miracles. So here is how it works. I'll read three chapters to you. You can listen or read along in your own Bible or online, and then I'll pray, and that's it. So today is day 17, and I'll be reading

Luke chapters 4 through 6, and this month I'm reading from the CSB version. Luke 4.

Then Jesus left the Jordan, full of the Holy Holy Spirit and was led by the Spirit in the

wilderness for 40 days to be tempted by the devil. He ate nothing during those days and when they were

over he was hungry. The devil said to him, if you are the son of God, tell this stone to become bread.

But Jesus answered him. It is written,

man must not live on bread alone. So he took him up and showed him all the kingdoms of the world in a

moment of time. The devil said to him, I will give you their splendor and all this authority because

it has been given over to me, and I can give it to anyone I want. If you then will worship me, all will be yours.

And Jesus answered him, it is written, worship the Lord your God, and serve him only. So he took

him to Jerusalem, had him stand on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to him, if you are the son of God,

throw yourself down from here. For it is written, he will give his angel's orders concerning

you to protect you, and they will support you with their hands so that you will not strike your foot

against a stone. And Jesus answered him, it is said, do not test the Lord your God. After the devil

had finished every temptation, he departed from him for a time. Then Jesus returned to Galilee

in the power of the spirit, and news about him spread throughout the entire vicinity. He was teaching

in their synagogues being praised by everyone. He came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up.

As usual, he entered the synagogue on the Sabbath day and stood up to read. The scroll of the prophet Isaiah was given to him, and enrolling the scroll, he found the place where it was written. The spirit of the Lord is on me because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set free the oppressed,

to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor. He then rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the

attendant, and sat down, and the eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fixed on him. He began by saying

to them, today, as you listen, this scripture has been fulfilled. They were all speaking

well of him and were amazed by the gracious words that came from his mouth. Yet they said,
