Summary
This year Easter is unusually late ... and that spells a very different holiday pattern for many people, especially families. Julia Lo Bue-Said, chief executive, Advantage Travel Partnership, tells me some are swapping an August fortnight in Mallorca for two weeks in Thailand at Easter for much the same price.

| 0:00.0 | Hello and welcome to the Independence Daily Travel Podcast with me, Simon Calder. It's Friday the 14th of |
| 0:06.8 | March, which means that, well, a month from now, an awful lot of people will be on holiday because of the |
| 0:13.9 | late Easter, Easter Sunday, not actually happening until the 20th of April. And I'm intrigued to |
| 0:20.7 | discover whether April is actually the new |
| 0:23.6 | August in terms of the sheer demand for families to go on their main holidays in April rather |
| 0:31.3 | than in August at the normal summer peak and there's only one person to talk to that's |
| 0:37.2 | Julia Lopouay-Said, |
| 0:38.9 | Chief Executive of Advantage Travel Partnership. Hello, Julia. Hi, Simon. So tell me what are |
| 0:46.2 | your member travel agents telling you about how the Easter holiday sales are going? |
| 0:52.8 | I think there are a number of things that play that are |
| 0:54.7 | seen right across the UK. And a lot of this is really because of the late Easter we have. |
| 1:00.6 | So we have very late Easter this year compared to last year. And that does a couple of things. |

| 1:09.5 | to travel. And also there are things like, well, |
| 1:11.7 | if I'm traveling to Europe now, the weather's going to be a lot nicer. So actually, possibly, |
| 1:15.9 | I can take my main holiday in Easter as opposed to August. And we are absolutely seeing that |
| 1:22.1 | happen. The volume of sales that are coming through for Easter holidays, full families, |
| 1:26.6 | is in a much greater share than |
| 1:28.6 | we would typically see at this time of year also compared to the summer. |
| 1:33.0 | But traditionally, as you will know, the travel industry doesn't really start with its |
| 1:38.2 | summer season with the large number of charter flights and hotel rooms booked until actually the start of May. So have they |
| 1:46.2 | kind of brought that forward? Are there enough plane seats? There is still a lot of capacity. |
