I'm coming to you from Cheltenham in the UK, where I live and I teach at Westminster Theological Center.

In this episode, I'm speaking with one of my former teachers, Mark Turnage.

I had Mark for a course on early Jewish

literature at Jerusalem University College back in 99. And Mark was actually TAing for the course,

but was already a very fascinating lecture. And as you go here in this episode, very knowledgeable.

I used to record those lectures. when I got back to the U.S., I had this little handheld tape recorder that recorded

very poor audio. And when I got back to the U.S., I used to listen to those, and even though

the sound was horrendous, because they were so fascinating to me.

And it was actually that semester abroad in Israel and that course in particular, that

sparked me to pursue biblical studies, and the rest is history. So it was fun to return

to the scene of that vocational crime to speak with Mark again.

And when I recorded this, Mark was at El Arrash, which is an archaeological site in the Galilee,

and the possible location of biblical Betzida, home of Peter and Andrew.

And they're only in their third season excavating,

but already finding some pretty significant stuff.
