Stu here, before we get stuck in, go to Stuart Goldsmith.com slash comedy to find details of all of my work in progress shows leading up to this year's Edinburgh Fringe.

0:08.2

I'm doing shows in London, Mahantlath, Lemington, Exeter, the Green Phoenix Festival, Oxford, and then the Edinburgh Fringe, 11th to the 17th of August at the Monkey Barrel.

See you there. Stuartgoldsmith.com slash comedy.

Hello and welcome back to the show.

Today I'm speaking to Mark Jennings. He's a bastion of the comedy scene in Scotland. He is, it says here, one of the country's strongest up-and-coming comedic talents. And he has, nonetheless, not only sold out the King's Theatre in his hometown of Glasgow, where he recorded his first stand-up comedy special original sound,

1:00.1

which I watched on YouTube and you can too, and I highly recommend it. It's really, really good,

1:06.8

and we will talk a lot about his real fluency with a comic premise. I was about to say his fluency with a comic preference. What would that even mean? But he's really, really good at

1:12.0

some of the machinery of stand-up, which we will, I'm not going to spoil it for you, but we'll get

1:16.2

stuck into that early doors. He's also, he's a regular panelist and writer on Breaking the News,

1:21.7

which is BBC Scotland's satirical news show, and he's done stand-up on the comedy underground

1:26.9

and Edinburgh Unlocks and stuff like that on

1:28.6

telly. We are going to talk about how this is good. This is good gear, right? I tell you how much

1:34.0

you're going to enjoy this. The first thing on my little bullet notes of things to promo in the

1:38.7

episode that we talk about is Mark's sentence, writing is the diet and gigging is the gym. And if that is the sort of thing that floats your boat, as I know it does,

1:47.1

then there's plenty more of that coming.

1:49.1

He's really got a kind of personal development mindset,

1:54.0

growth mindset kind of book learning type angle on...

1:57.9

Oh, no, it's not an angle, but it's like he's one of those guys,

2:00.2

and I'm like, I'll talk to one of those guys all day long,

2:03.0

provided they are benevolent and non-toxic, as Mark is.

2:07.3

So we're going to talk about writing being the diet and giving me in the gym.

2:10.3

We will talk about the phenomenon of comics who chase clip culture,
