Summary

The Manniacs are back at it, this time with Rob's introduction to the Manniverse: Last of the Mohicans. Special Guest Troy Goodfellow joins Alex, Dia, and Rob as they discuss the movie that very likely caused the existence of this podcast series: a period drama about colonists fighting other colonists and the first nation peoples caught up in the conflict of the Seven Years War. Welcome back to Man Hunting, which weight point and friends are working through the

filmography of Michael Mann and examining his themes of labor and craft, capitalist

oppression, and yes still, dude's rocking. This time they're rocking in the

0:56.9

Baygon past of the United States as we talk about 1992's Last of the Moheekens. Today as usual,

I am joined by, you know, I'm gonna keep sticking by this. World Maniacs. Alex Navarro,

1:13.2

DL Assina, you're Maniacs. Welcome to the show. I am a Maniac on the dance floor and I can say

1:21.4

that this is unlike any man film I have seen before. You know, I don't think that it actually is.

the early 90s. And I absolutely had to have Troy on this one because this is waypoint definitely

1:52.8

boguarding a show that Troy and I were gonna do. The thrumos had series where we look at like the

treatment of history in cinema. So obviously, you know, have to have to make sure

2:05.5

everyone eats at the banquet table of Michael Mann. So, Last of the Moheekens,

2:13.8

not a favorite book of mine. Doesn't seem like it was a favorite book of any Hollywood script,

2:18.8

a screenwriter, not a favorite book of Michael Mann's because everyone basically takes the

2:24.2

broadest outline of James Hennermark Cooper's novel and seems to throw it into the bin

2:31.0

and then kind of riff in a different direction. The film that Man actually cites as sort of the

2:36.2

precursor to the 1992 film is an earlier Hollywood adaptation that I've never seen it, but

2:44.2

according to Man is a bit stylistically clunky, but seems to have a pretty smartly adapted

script that draws some interesting themes out of the text. Those themes come through in the broad
