Hey everybody welcome back to Cole Case Murder Mysteries. I'm your host Ryan Kraus

steering this ship directly into the storm once again as we investigate the psychological

narrative lurking beneath the baffling unsolved disappearance of 24-year-old Amy Ropectal who vanished

without a trace while out for a jog. Now I have to say

up front that the reason I chose this case is that there simply is no evidence whatsoever in terms

of physical or even great circumstantial evidence and so what we're left

with is the ability to dive into a psychological narrative that renders some evidence that says,

hey, this might have been the person.

And so, you know, because I'm that guy, we're doing this,

and we're going to end up with something that's not a Wikipedia page.

So anyhow, on the morning of July 24th,

1997, Amy left her home in Lander, Wyoming that she shared with her 27-year-old

husband, Steve Bechtel, and then ran a few errands before ascending into the mountains to train for an upcoming 10-K race she planned to run.

Steve, who'd been out rock climbing with a friend all day, returned home and waited for Amy to arrive.

But when she didn't come home, and friends and family also claimed to have not seen her,

Steve Bechtel called the police and reported her missing.

What's followed is a mystery spanning more than two decades, one seemingly no closer to being

solved today than it was back in 1997, for a very specific reason.

Nobody knows where Amy went. There has been no sign of her dead or alive, so we should assume she encountered foul play at the hands of

a predator's talking her. But without remains, physical evidence, or even a crime scene, we don't know.

The possibility does exist that Amy was involved in some type of accident,

either one in which the circumstances dictated she disappeared alone on a jog, or there was interference such as a scenario
