Summary

Whether you’re trying to scale back to a simpler schedule or ramp up after a pandemic hiatus, adjusting to kids’ activities and extracurriculars is a huge part of settling into a fall routine. In Episode 330 Meagan and Sarah look at this topic with some hindsight (sharing what we learned about ourselves and our kids by trying different activities during the little years), and also through the lens of Fall 2021 (what our kids are playing and trying now, and how a year off has changed things in our families). We also reflect on how our own childhoods influence our family cultures around extracurriculars, and what has surprised us about how older kids and teens find their passions and pursuits. Join us!

tips and encouragement. And remind you that it's really all gonna be okay. We're

Hey everyone and welcome to episode 330 of the mom hour. I am Sarah Powers. Here

as always with Megan Francis. Hey Megan. Hey Sarah. So we're talking about kids

0:33.4

and sports and activities today. And I don't know dance lessons, art, piano, all

0:39.0

of that good stuff. And it occurred to us as we were talking about this that we

0:43.3

kind of skipped a whole year last year. We do this every year. I think except

0:48.4

not last year. Did last year even happen? Did it 2020 even happen? So fall of

0:54.7

2020. We actually, I mean, we tackled a lot of topics in fall of 2020, the

0:59.1

return to school and virtual learning. And we dug in. But I know for me, we moved

1:04.6

in the summer of 2020. And then the focus was on figuring out what school was

1:09.0

gonna look like. So my kids were in zero extra curriculars at all in fall of

1:14.6

2020. And I know part of that was our move because if I know in some areas,

1:19.6

there were ways to safely continue your your sports. But for us, it was like it

1:23.5

was like the slate kind of wiped us clean. So yeah, today we're going to look

1:29.4

at sports and activities. Kind of, I don't know, through the lens of what we've

1:33.9

learned over time from having teeny tiny kids and swim lessons or gymnastics or

1:39.2

whatever, all the way up through Megan where you are, which is high schoolers and
