Old Trafford like you've never really seen it this afternoon.

We were supposed to be watching them take on Liverpool at 4.30.

The kickoff has been delayed because of protests not just here at the stadium but also at the team hotels.

This was, what, 20 past 2 in the first half at St James's Park when several hundred of the protesting fans managed to find their way into the stadium and onto the pitch, as you can see, one or two flares going off.

They found their way, some of them down the actual tunnel. I'm not sure if they actually entered the dressing rooms or not at this stage and then were dispersed, but they then reappeared again in the second half

at St James's Park.

A smaller group this time.

You can see up the top there in the corporate boxes

and this time there was security on hand really to try and prevent them

from accessing the playing surface here.

It seems they've been able to come in and out of the stadium at will this afternoon.

A largely peaceful process, you have to say, I'm not sure what's happening outside the ground.

But police did turn up here an hour after the first fans came in and then you saw the fans quickly disperse,

some of whom on their way out managed to grab a conversation with Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville.
