Victor Frankenstein and Dr. Jekyll. One created a monster using pieces of dead

bodies, the other created a monster by unleashing something from within himself. Over the last

century, we've seen countless adaptations and twists and spins on these tales, and two in particular,

both released over the last few years,

both directed by European filmmakers, were received with huge critical acclaim and even Academy Award recognition. In 2023, Yorgos Lantemos created a new kind of bride of Frankenstein

with poor things. The story of a mad scientist creating

a woman, Bella Baxter, who embarks on a journey of independence and self-discovery.

And in 2024, Coralie Farger told a Jekyllen Hyde-esque story about a fading film star,

injecting herself with a serum known as the substance to create a younger, more beautiful version of herself with horrific consequences.
