episode of the man called Axe in just a moment but some real-life context is important. On May

the 7th of 1951 Herbert Marshall suffered a heart attack. He had to go into the hospital for an

operation back on May the 7th. Now you might be wondering about that because the last two

programs we heard were on May 11th and May 18th. At this point in radio, not all programs were

necessarily recorded the week there. Series that relied on transcription desk would often have

showrunners make the decision you know it makes sense to be a little bit ahead on a recording

because during the 1940s you had a lot of situations where a show would have to deal with an

absent actor. However, if you record one or two transcriptions ahead and Jonny doll or during

the Jack John Stone era, they recorded three weeks ahead. You have a schedule for recording

and your lead calls it and says, I can't record, I got a sore throat, get record. Think of me

like no problem. I'll go ahead and let everyone else know you just go ahead rest your voice

and we'll see next week and we'll get two more recording sessions in so that we're caught up.

So you know if Herbert Marshall had gotten a call that wouldn't have been no big deal. At our

heart attack, surgery, days in the hospital, recovery. Yeah, just being a couple of weeks ahead on
