Summary

Greg is back! Join Jim and Greg for the Monday 3 Martini Lunch as they break down Argentina’s strong midterm results for President Javier Milei, Zohran Mamdani’s disturbing comments on 9/11, and Gavin Newsom pretending to be mulling over a 2028 presidential bid.

First, they cheer the impressive election results in Argentina, which give President Milei a stronger hand in the legislature and more time for his free-market reforms to show results. Jim also points out why this is a win for the U.S., especially Treasury Sec. Scott Bessent.

Next, they shudder as New York City mayoral nominee Zohran Mamdani says suggests Muslims in the city have been treated poorly, including his aunt who allegedly stopped riding the the subway after 9/11 because she didn't feel safe wearing her hijab. Multiple reports cast serious doubt on the veracity of his story but Jim says Mamdani's comments seek to shift the narrative on who the real perpetrators and real victims were on 9/11. Will New York voters care?

Finally, they chuckle as California Gov. Gavin Newsom claims he’ll “think about” running for president in 2028 after the 2026 midterms. His every move suggests he decided to run a long time ago, but Jim says he has one big problem.

I am back, obviously, and thanks to Craig Collins for filling in from me last week, as well as some of my friends at Radio America. Behind the scenes, Jim, thank you for the extra work you did as well. And I know your real good martini today is the New York Jets getting their first win of the season yesterday. It's not an official good martini. We'll get into that in just a second, but congratulations. Actually, I've declared it is the good martini for the day, and we're going to spend the next five minutes talking about it.

I, Greg, I was thrilled to see the NFL season reinstated yesterday because my understanding had been canceled for seven weeks.

0:49.1

Because let me tell you, I hadn't seen any professional football played in the preceding seven weeks.

But no, like, you know, it's stupid. It should not affect my mood that much. But, you know, and obviously, like, they're one in seven. It's not like everything is just magically turned around. Man, I was in a fabulous mood yesterday afternoon. Just that spring in my step, smile and beaming. Everybody I know is texting me. Like, I won the game myself. I just sat in a bar and watched it myself because my younger son was like, you know, had a sleep over the previous night, was tired. I'm like, look, they're 0 and 7. You know, they have a whole bunch of guys out. Sleep late. don't worry about it. And he missed the first one in the season.

Never, never give up on your team. Snooze you lose, literally, at the Garrity household. Okay, let's get to our good martini and we've got election results. We're going to have more election results next week and hopefully those turn into good martinis. but down in South America, south of the equator.
