Some of the listeners may find out that I refer to you as a Republican in your job title. So for those

people who don't follow the FCC quite as closely as some others, especially outside the United

States, could you explain some of the government structure of the FCC and why there is this kind

of bipartisan membership? Yeah, it's really interesting. So the way to think about the FCC,

it's basically a mini Congress in the U.S. focused on mostly

telecom and some tech issues.

There's traditionally five commissioners.

We each serve staggered five-year terms, and only three commissioners can be of the same

political party as the president.

So right now that would apply to Democrats at the FCC.

Typically you have two Republicans,

which is what we have right now. And of course, 98% of what we do is bipartisan and in politics

plays no role on party affiliation doesn't. But every once in a while, there's some high profile
