0:00.0 | Ladies and gentlemen, this is going to be a very special edition of the I Don't Have Enough Faith to be an atheist radio program and podcast back in Christmas of 2016. |
0:14.0 | I interviewed Dr. Tim Keller and many of you know Dr. Keller died about a week ago. |
0:20.0 | I learned so much from him that I wanted to re-broadcast this program for you. It's an evergreen broadcast. You're going to learn a lot. Here is Dr. Tim Keller. |
0:32.0 | Ladies and gentlemen, how can you make sense of God to secular people, to skeptical people? Can you just give them reasons, just give them arguments? |
0:43.0 | That approach doesn't work very often, does it? No reason alone usually is not enough. There are often cultural, emotional and volitional obstacles in the way of belief. |
0:55.0 | So the question is, the question we're going to deal with today is how can we address those obstacles to move the skeptic toward Christ? Well there's probably nobody in America who knows how to reach skeptics better than my guest today. |
1:07.0 | Since 1989, he's been engaging skeptics and then pastoring them in the heart of one of the most skeptical areas of the world. |
1:16.0 | And that would be New York City. And as you've heard, if you can make it there, you can make it anywhere. |
1:22.0 | So my guest, of course, is Dr. Tim Keller, the founding pastor of Redeemer Presbyterian Church, which has a weekly attendance of over 5,000 across three and now soon to be four locations in Manhattan. |
1:36.0 | Tim has also helped start over 250 churches in about 48 different cities. And in his spare time, he writes New York Times best selling books to sell over a million copies, such as Reason for God, which I think is already an apologetics classic. |
1:51.0 | In fact, it's always just number two behind mere Christianity. It's right there on Amazon, always way up at the top, great book. |
1:57.0 | And then, Prodicle God, which you may have also heard of, which is one of the most profound books you'll ever read on the true nature of Christianity. |
2:03.0 | Now, the book we'll be discussing today is an equally outstanding book. It's actually a bit of a prequel to Reason for God. It's called Making Sense of God and Invitation to the Skeptical. |
2:15.0 | Tim, Merry Christmas to you and it's a pleasure having you on the show. |
2:18.0 | I'm glad to be here, Merry Christmas to you again. |
2:21.0 | Tim, I've heard you say that Making Sense of God is a prequel to Reason for God. What is Making Sense of God Addressed that Reason for God doesn't? |
2:31.0 | Well, that Reason for God is almost completely dedicated to the question, is Christianity true? Is it rationally true? Is there evidence why I, as a rational person ought to believe it? |
2:49.0 | Making Sense of God is addressing a question, why should I care if it's true? Why? So what if it's true or not? Why would it even be relevant to me? |
3:01.0 | Why isn't religion actually a bad thing? Maybe I shouldn't want it to be true. I got the idea for, well, for a lot of reasons. |
3:11.0 | But there's a place where Blaze Baskow and one of his pawns says that before a person is probably open to really listening to good case for Christianity being true, they've got to see that it would be great if it was. |
3:24.0 | And I do think that most people, at least in my city, don't think it would be great if Christianity was true. They really don't want to go there because they'd be afraid it might be true. |
3:35.0 | I don't want it to be true. So that's why I would say Making Sense of God is kind of a prequel. |
