The organ is one of the only instruments that you play with both your hands and your feet, second in popularity

probably only to the drum set. The top keyboard looks like a piano keyboard

but down low is what's called a pedal keyboard and you play it with your feet.

I have enough trouble with the piano and just the one pedal, so the idea of organ

A piece of music doesn't just spring into the world fully formed. There are a bunch of steps along the way in the process of its creation.

And each of those steps or phases is sort of interesting to consider on its own terms.

There's the initial conception when you come up with the idea and sort of first figure out what it's going to sound like.

There's the writing and arranging where you take that initial idea and sort of turn it into something bigger,

arrange it, maybe figure out what instruments it's going to be on, start really finalizing what it's

going to sound like. There's the recording and the performance. When you get together

with other musicians or you play the parts

yourself and you record them they kind of become real. Then there's the editing and

the fine-tuning which comes after that. Everything has been recorded. You basically

know what you've got but it's just time to kind of perfect it and fine tune it.

And then there's kind of finalizing it, putting it out there.
