We do think about our country on the day like today, and rightly we should.

We have a generation of young people today who really don't understand how we got to

where we are in terms of what we enjoy in this country and many countries like it.

Teaching of American history has been systematically removed from schools for decades now so that

they don't have any sense of the history of this country.

But there were some devastating prices paid to bring this country to the place it is

now where so many people have so little appreciation for it.

But it's not just what Americans suffered.

It's what went on all over the world.

If you go back to the time that I was born, I was born the very year that Hitler ascended

to power.
